What is the Student Design Competition & Prizes
The ASME Student Design Competition provides a platform for ASME Student Members to present their solutions to a range of design problems - from everyday household tasks to groundbreaking space exploration. Each team is required to design, construct and operate a prototype meeting the requirements of an annually determined problem statement.

SDC Q&A Forum - Discord Channel
Join the ASME Student Community Discord server: https://discord.gg/jDSzTPEyH4 navigate to the “ASME COMPETITIONS EFX & EFEST Channel” and select the sdc subchannel. Review questions and answers posted previously in the Q&A Forum (available beginning September 2025) and submit your new questions for review.
The Q&A Forum responses from the ASME Student Community Discord server that provide additional guidance will be collected and posted periodically. These collected responses will be posted and pinned as a PDF on Discord and provided to competitors upon registration. It is the responsibility of the team members to review the Q&A Forum responses. Judges cannot respond to or verify the design “legality” of drawings/images/specific descriptions submitted on Discord. Teams should proceed at their own risk following advice or interpretations from non-official sources.
